Brexit Transition

Preparing for the end of Brexit transition

As we approach the end of this challenging year, if you haven’t already, there may be action required with regards to Brexit. On January 1st, 2021, the transition period after leaving the EU will end.

If you trade with suppliers or customers outside of the UK, you will be affected. There are changes that you need to be prepared for. As this is written, we are not 100% sure of what all the changes will be and Sage are waiting to see what changes may be required to their software packages, including Sage 200cloud and Sage 50.

Sage have told us that they will deploy changes as quickly as possible, but this may not be the case for all versions, so there may be a requirement for some workarounds. See the Brexit updates section under Sage 200 2020 R2 (Professional) in the Sage Roadmap at https://my.sage.co.uk/public/help.aspx#/roadmap/sage-200/launching-soon

There are a few things that can be done in preparation:

  • Document layouts will need to be amended to incorporate commodity codes and EORI
  • Country of Origin and commodity code will need to be added to stock items
  • EORI numbers will need to be added to Suppler and Customer accounts

From the new year there will be requirements around VAT coding too.

Check how you will be affected by visiting the Government site at https://www.gov.uk/transition
